Noren

Noren refers to the traditional Japanese curtain that is displayed in passages allowing transition between different environments. Noren are dyed on both sides of the cloth, and therefore present identical image on their front and back. Their size varies depending on their utilization. Noren is not meant to divide spaces, but to allow a smooth transition among them. Shops hang noren at their entrances to invite customers. At homes, noren substitute close doors allowing differences with subtilty.
