Obi

Obi refers to the kimono bands used as a compliment to the Japanese traditional dressing.

The repetition of flowers and leaves create a symmetry full of colors. The presence of violets and other flower buds cries out that Spring is pressing to come.

The main motif of these series of three Obi is pomegranate. In this work pomegranates float in a pink background and dynamically move thanks to the binding motives between them. In this piece the design melts with the background resulting in an overall tone that is energetic and lively.

The main motif of this Obi is pomegranate as in the previous work. In this work pomegranates thrive against a grey background bound by the colorful motives between them. In this piece the design does not melt with the background. Rather, the design stands out and the background only supports it.

As in the previous two works, the main motif of the Obi is pomegranate. In this piece, the pomegranates lead and order the space into strips supported by the binding motives between them. The blue background helps the idea of order and synchronization of patterns.

This is a traditional pattern from Okinawa (Bingata). By using colors freely the result is modern, and at the same time, it remains traditional because of the technique used.
